NAMTSE
As its name, Namtse,
meaning sky high, it is situated at an elevation of 5500 ft. Nestled among the
hills, it is just the right place for the panoramic view of the snow
capped Himalayan peaks and vast stretches of valley. It is the HQ of the south district and is
fast developing into a tourist destination. It is about 78 kms from Gangtok.
It is a small flat stretch of land at an
altitude of 8530 ft above Damthang.
It is surrounded by lush green old forests and overlooks Namtse town. Owing to its attitude, the view from the top of
the Tendong Hill is awesome
which spans across plains of Bengal to
the majestic Himalayan Ranges.
One can also proceed to Namtse by trekking via Tendong Hill.
Maenam is located above Tendong Hill overlooking the Ravangla Bazar settlement. Scenic view
from the height of this hill, 10,300 ft, is unmatched in this part of the
world.
